People often say, "Just be kind."

But what they don't talk about is how memories shape kindness.

When someone has hurt us before, even their good actions are filtered through old wounds.

And when someone has been good to us for years, we often excuse mistakes we wouldn't accept from others.

We don't respond only to what people do today. We respond to the history we've lived with them.

Trust isn't built in a moment, and neither is doubt.

Have you ever felt like everything was already written… and we are just quietly playing our parts?

I don’t know if it’s true. Maybe no one really knows.

.                         PC: Google

But sometimes life feels too aligned to be random.

A moment. A meeting. A delay.

Something small shifts… and everything changes.

It makes you pause and think—

Was this meant to happen?

Maybe life isn’t fully written.

Maybe it isn’t completely in our control either.

Maybe it’s something in between—

a story with a direction… but space for us to feel, choose, and become who we are.

However, there will always be people who don’t believe in this.

And there will always be people who do.

But, I think, you are what you believe, so, even if life is a script, you still have to perform your part fully, whether it is written or not. Isn't?

Coversation over a coffee.

Before I dive into the full conversation, here’s a quick snapshot of how it began.

I have an Indian friend here in Adelaide, Noor. We met over coffee, and she started talking about an executive manager, Carol, at her office—someone who, according to her, does almost nothing at work.

She apparently watches series at her desk, comes and goes as she pleases, and is only 20, without even a graduation degree. It turned into a stream of corporate-bashing comments.

So naturally, the question came up—why is she still employed? Because she’s the owner’s daughter. That’s where the discussion really started.

Noor: I don’t understand why she doesn’t realise she should study. She doesn’t work, yet still gets paid.

Me: Hmm.

Noor: She’s always talking about her manicures and the new BMW her mom is getting her.

Me: Hmm.

Noor: She should do something on her own, stand on her own feet. And stop saying “hmm” to everything.

At that point, I laughed. Honestly, why does it matter so much? Why should Carol be bothered about what others think, as long as she’s happy?

Not everyone is raised with the same values we are.

In our culture, the conversation doesn’t just stop at basic manners—it stretches into bigger expectations: standing on your own feet, proving your worth, constantly achieving more.

We’re raised with a kind of pressure that pushes us to outperform—even to outdo the imaginary “Sharma ji ka beta.”

But not every culture operates that way. Some people grow up without that constant scrutiny—no one questioning or judging what they earn or how they earn it. And maybe that’s why they move differently, think differently, and live without any weight of expectations.

So while it may seem frustrating from the outside, I don’t see it as something to judge. If she’s content in her world, untouched by the pressure we’ve always known, maybe that’s just a different kind of freedom, I said.

After that little “lecture,” Noor never brought up Carol again. 😄

Cannot believe, Just 15 days to 2021.

World has had enough of 2020, everyone is very much looking forward to 2021. Having said that, we should first acknowledge and empathize with all the departed souls this year and the sacrifice they made in this pandemic battle. This year will indeed be remembered by all.

However, this whole thing could not stop us from keep moving. Three cheers for all those who still made their life events grand by embracing the situation and compromising the loud celebrations, they are the people who got married this year, who delivered their baby, who even got into a new job, who are passed out this year in spite having a continuous stress behind their head. Kudos to them.

And we cannot thank enough to the healthcare frontliners who worked day and night, keeping their own family at bay just to save the mankind. Hats off to them.

This year has been difficult for each one of us, including very young kids but we are still moving up in this battle, a battle where we all are in it together against this evil virus. The time is not far where our life will go back to normal.

But I contemplate? Are we still same? I do not think so. We all have grownup together in this challenging situation, where it taught us to stay positive together, to fight in the battle together, to work together, made us aware of the significance of maintaining hygiene in our daily lives, made us aware of the importance of friends family and taught us to value relationship even more, celebrating life no matter what. We grew up together in this, so a big pat on our back itself.

We are the survivors; we are the winners. Celebration for the same is due but hope never dies.

May this 2021 bring good health and happiness into the world.

Happy new 2021 everyone.

It was a long tiring day in the office, and I couldn’t think of anything better than a good sound sleep.

As I was approaching my steps to home, I could hear the loud soap operas’ hilarious background music on television. Laughing in my head, I rang the bell, my mother opened the door with a shining smile and said, “Come beta! you must be really tired, I will get you a cup of green tea" and went to the kitchen. "Oh! Maa, what would I have done without you", I said and laid down on couch. and there it was:

"Sirf chaar hafton me paaye gora nikhar" featuring a girl face in Ravana head style with different shades of skin tone and where the smile keeps on extending with the fairer tone. I was grinning seeing that pictorial portray of shades and how the smile is directly proportion to the lighter skin tone. It was so funny yet dangerous to see that a national commercial gets to decide which skin is no good skin and moreover, misusing their power to guide the Indian population that fair is beautiful, and brown is not.

How naive Indians could be to believe and follow such products from ages.

Indians are brown skinned people. Period. What’s so unacceptable about it? I really don’t understand, what’s the big deal owning brown skin? I think it’s the preaches from ancestral generation which was blindly followed by the people till today; preaches to make brown skinned people uncomfortable with their skin just because they don’t like their skin color. And, that’s so wrong. Commenting on your own people’s color is just disgraceful, it’s like you are making your own community pollute, unsafe, uncomfortable to live in.

Moreover, why do people are even obsessed with fair skin. This is one thing I guess I would never understand in my life. Why do people run after such products to get a fairer skin? Every human being is god's beautiful creation, disrespecting them on basis of looks means disrespecting god himself.

 Audrey Hepburn once said:

         "For beautiful eyes,

look for the good in others.

           For beautiful lips,

                 speak only words of kindness

          For poise

walk with the knowledge that you are never alone

and I believe happy girls are the prettiest

because elegance is the only thing that never fades away"

Then why do you need fair skin? As long as you are smiling whole heartedly, I bet no other makeup or skin tone can brighten up any face in that matter.

Listen girl/boy, if you ever have been felt insecure by the sick hater’s comment, don’t care about it because they don’t care about you.

Well I am not here to say what should be done on these haters comment, but I am here today to emphasize on this whole skin color discrimination first place.

Try to make your community comfortable and livable for all types of skin color, and that’s not too much to ask for.

Let’s celebrate beauty beyond color and learn to respect all skin color.

Do your bit and encourage people around you for not being biased based on skin color.

Be responsible and do your part, rest will make the world a better place to live and breathe.

You are the change. And, remember….

Brown is Beautiful!

"Road to success is not easy"
"Life is a journey"

We often come across by these quotes, but just imagine what it would like if your life would have been a car. Weird? Probably not for me because I do believe life is a journey and time is our road, but I never gave it a thought unless I started learning driving and gradually started relating each maneuver techniques with driving our own life on the road of our journey.

Read further for getting a better picture.

1. Focus

What is the most important thing when you drive on road? You need to focus straight ahead, you just can't act like a passenger looking all around but straight. You ought to be very careful to avoid any mishap on road or in your life, because you are the driver of your car, no one else. In order to achieve this, you need to be focus, you should know where to reach in either of the journeys.

2. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst

Who doesn't like to drive on a smooth road, but you don't always get a smooth road to drive? You will find bumpy road, sometimes gravel road, hairpin loop road, traffic road, slippery roads. But, you are a safe and smart driver, you have control on your car and similarly on your life, and these roads or challenges in life will eventually make you stronger and fearless in driving on any type of roads.

You have to be just aware of when to put brake on a bad road, a smart move to avoid bumpy road, alternate route if closed road ahead, kick starting on a bad traffic, because believe me it's not about the road it's about how you are driving your car on that very road or your life in that very challenging situation

3. Don't overseeing your past

As I said before, you have to focus ahead  and not behind you. Looking behind should only be a lesson to move ahead by letting go the troubles which might lead you to an accident. Try to read between the lines and you will get what I wrote.

4. GPS

Sometimes we are lost, not in aim but the route to reach the destination. There are 10 more roads to that same destination, but you need to switch on your GPS at that crucial time to know which path to chose. Your GPS is your intuition, because eventually we always know what needs to be done. Who knows, you might come across to some beautiful road which you might never be able to see if not got lost, So sometimes getting lost is good in a way, that you are courageous enough to try something new. GPS is also your support system or the help you get from your family and friends. So try to make your GPS circuit strong by your way.

5. Fuel

All work and no play not only makes Jack's life dull and boring but yours too. So stop driving, pull over, give for servicing, fuel-in, take a deep breath, go for vacation, motivate yourself, take a break, relax, eat healthy and then start driving, you will enjoy driving again.

So, these are some major lessons I learned while learning driving our car. I also feel you might have your own interpretation to some maneuvers, which I would love to hear back. So, don't forget to leave your comments below.

There was a time when I was served with dinner on platter by my mom after coming from work, and there is time now when I have to enter kitchen after work so that I can serve dinner to myself.

Well, I heard what you said, there is always a first time.

I still remember I didn't know how to cook when I first moved to US after my wedding, and then just followed the basic Indian basic masala (spice) principle to almost all the things I tried, even if it's anything continental, which is onion tomatoes fry with all the available Indian masalas. I remember, when I started cooking I got some serious leg cramps due to standing for may be 30 minutes, yes just 30 minutes was like 3 hours for me then.

I now realize that might be the reason why I don't like preparing tea, also because I loose patience and mostly interest standing and looking at the water to boil and then waiting for another boil with tea leaves and then wait forever for third boil with milk (that's the secret of Indian chai, by the way).

Believe me, being in Kitchen for almost 2.5 years has taught me a lot of things and made me a better person in my life. It made me more responsible, it made me to love vegetables like karela (bittergourd), it taught me to to be organized, it made me realized that kitchen is a big responsibility and I hats off to all the mothers who has done this job for years and spreading love through out the family. Love your mom for doing all this without having any expectation or help in return.

Here are a few things I learned in Kitchen, when I became the owner of my kitchen.

1. Forgetting the lunchbox in your work bag is NEVER OKAY!

I had to throw two lunchboxes over last few months. You asking why? because that closed lunch box was lying in my bag for one day and then forgot to wash it the other day. Finally when I got time to wash, it was too late, as it became abode for tiny-miny cute looking fungus and I got so emotional for not destroying the same. Just kidding, I was furious and threw the whole lunchbox in the bin. This was my lesson and I made a habit of taking out the lunch box everyday after reaching home by setting up an reminder in my mobile after that incident.

Now I understand why my mom used to yell at me for not keeping out the lunchbox in the sink on same day.

2. No one enters the kitchen other than you

Other members might just enter to check if any food is there to snack on or not. Leaving only me, who spends atleast 1.5 hour in kitchen, either cooking or setting up the utensils back to its place, and then cleaning the area.

It's like a vicious circle:
  • Cook,
  • Clean,
  • Keep the utensils back, and then
  • Take it out to Cook again.
3. If you dont cook, there will be no food for the day

If I am not feeling well for a day, that's it...it's a party time for my hubby. He will find Pizza to Fried chicken online, all kinds of junk food which you try to avoid for your family.

Trust me he never gets this happy face until I utter this sentence "not feeling well to cook today".

5. Family's health is in your hand

I truly believe this. Your family is what you feed them. That's why even if I am very tired, I make sure to cook some quick and tasty healthy food from my menu planner, instead of hogging onto junk snacks.

4. No one can know the kitchen and its stuffs any better than you

The way you keep the stuff, you want others to follow the same. Your kitchen, your style, your rules. Sounds fantastic right, it feels fantastic too :D

6. Meal planner chart is a must, or I go nuts

It's like looking at the filled wardrobe and you feel " I have nothing to wear today". It took me months to realize that I need a chart, or else I keep stressing over evening for what I should prepare for dinner.

7. Making a chapati is no less than Rocket science in my case

Trust me I am still bad at it, and making the dough just drains me out. And, I believe Roti making is a whole process, you have to set up with all the machinaries you need and make the dough, job doesn't ends there, now you have to roll it in a such a way it becomes circle, okay done but it's not done yet, you have to cook it properly so it fluffs up on gas. Yes, you think now it's over? No, you  have repeat this entire thing for almost 10 times, and then clean up the entire thing.

8. 7 Days continous cooking is a PAIN, period

Yes, it is!

9. Basic Indian Masala is the (mother and father) of all dish

As I mentioned before that's how I learned cooking. Fry onion, put tomatoes, roast them together till the oil oozes out, that's it, mix anything with this masala. Even with the international veggies like: Brussel sprouts, Bakchoi, well not Asparagus obviously, well  may be I should give a try. :D

10. It is the biggest personal job and responsibility ever, and I simply love it!

Believe me it takes a lot to be in kitchen for such a long time. Being a head chef of your own kitchen is not an easy task, but what makes it easy is the smile on your loved ones across the dining table.

Hats off! To all the women and men who takes in-charge of their family's health and spend time in creating joys for their family.

It’s been a long time I have pen-down any of my thoughts on paper. Life becomes busy as you grow up, and I don’t like growing up. Well, I have been occupied at work since the month of April, and then one day one of my colleagues shared that she might leave the job very soon. I was sad, very sad not because she sits beside me and I enjoy her company, not because we have shared secrets and are very close to each other, not because of any obvious reasons to feel bad when someone you like leaves, perhaps I was just appreciating her presence around since her joining, that’s it, but why was I sad hearing the news of her leaving all of us?

This thought made me write down, well this is what I call it as Attachment, it can be dangerous at times. The scenario I mentioned above is just the source of my incessant thoughts on an emotional prospect of a life: Attachment.

That reminds me of Jiah Khan’s case. Personally, I would not like to comment on anyone’s personal life, but according to the news it is explained that she committed suicide because of an unhealthy relationship. That’s the point, when you are so attached to someone that you start giving more value to that life than your own, you stop respecting your own worth, and I would call it as a negative attachment. Because it holds you down, makes you stagnant, and stops you from growing but very unlikely, the good attachment I would define as something that sets you free, makes you more beautiful and provides you peace with yourself. What I really want to say here is that being attached with somebody is fine but overdoing is not fine at all, it is dangerous instead.

And, why only human relationships I should talk about, what about that dress in your wardrobe that does not fit you anymore, what about that beautiful shaped glass jar in your kitchen which is getting old without being used, open the store cabinet and see the roughly opened gift still wrapped with the same wrapping paper: Attachment is not only limited to any human relationship, it is an emotional relationship even with inanimate things.

Try to make your life clutter-free by taking out these unnecessary relationships or things, because you are the creator of your own future and life is all about what you chose.
